At Rominger West Winery we strive to integrate the production of artisan wines with our care for the environment and responsibility to our community. Join us in our mission!
Quality
Our dedication and devotion to handcrafted wine is evident in our small artisan lots and hand-picked vineyards. This approach allows us to capture characteristics of the grapes that are a clear expression of their site, and then turn them into delicious wine. We hope you enjoy the fruit of our labor!
Sustainability
We are dedicated to producing the finest handcrafted wines with the least amount of negative impact to the environment. We pursue this goal through the use of sustainable farming practices, an emphasis on local conservation, reuse of resources, and a long-term focus on the impacts of our actions. Sustainable farming increases the biodiversity in our vineyard soils, improves the health of the vines, and produces more flavorful grapes. Please join us in helping to build a sustainable future for our community.
Community
We are passionate about giving back to our local community, which has given so much to us. We regularly make donations and host fundraisers, and we donate 50% of the profits from our recently released Tailwind Red and Tailwind White blends to the NorCal AIDS Cycle, a local organization that raises money and awareness for HIV/AIDS service providers in the Sacramento area.
We have strong community support, with many special local business partnerships flourishing and regular customers that visit the winery every week. We are the “Cheers” of the neighborhood, and many of our customers are old, close friends from years of visiting the winery. Become one of our friends by stopping by the winery the next time you drive by! We are open Monday-Saturday, 12:00-6:00 pm, with extended hours until 7:30 pm on Thursday and Friday nights for live music events, open to the public!
Charlie Rominger
In October of 2006, we lost our beloved friend, brother and founding winegrower, Charlie Rominger. Charlie passed away following a battle with cancer. The outpouring of grief from the community after his death was a testament to the impact Charlie had on those around him, but it barely touched on the depth of loss we continue to feel here. Charlie always wanted us to make sure that we had fun, focused on quality, supported our community, and worked to make the region better for our children, and we have remained committed to these goals.
Charlie’s younger brother, Bruce, has stepped in as the wine-grower for the winery, and our vineyards have flourished and continued to grow even more agriculturally sustainable and environmentally friendly under Bruce’s skilled hand. Bruce grew up in the town of Winters, received a B.S. in Plant Science from UC Davis, and has been working with his brothers on the Rominger family farm near Winters ever since. With many different types of grapes to watch over (Syrah, Malbec, Tannat, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Semillon, the list goes on…) as well as the Rominger Brother’s Farm operations, Bruce keeps himself very busy. On the rare occasion that he has some time to relax, Bruce enjoys hiking with his family, cheering on the San Francisco Giants and listening to some good ol’ 70’s rock n’ roll!
